While working today, I heard a strange whining noise coming from under the house near where our HVAC unit sits, and a strong burning smell. Out of an abundance of caution, I called 911. Thankfully, there was no fire, but the fireman advised us to turn off the heat and have an HVAC professional inspect the system. We needed service on our furnace and it was so cold. We didn't have alternate heating, and I called over 20 different places trying to find a HVAC technician who would come service our issue.
